ABOUT THE BUEI BORA FAMILY
These beans come from the Yirgachefe district in the southwestern part of Ethiopia. Yirgachefe is renowned for producing some of the world's best coffee, thanks to its warm, tropical climate, fertile soils, and high altitude. The plantations are located at an elevation of 2000 m, qualifying Yirgachefe coffee as Strictly High Grown (SHG) / Strictly Hard Bean (SHB). This means the beans mature slowly, providing extra time for the tree to deliver nutrients and develop depth of flavor. The rich history and traditions of local farmers allow for coffee cultivation without the use of chemical agents.
Coffee cultivation is the most common occupation among the residents, with over 45,000 farmers cultivating coffee in Yirgachefe. The coffee processing mill was established here in 1970.
Buei Bora, 34 years old, was born in Yirgachefe and has lived here for over 10 generations of his family. Coffee has been their family business for as long as he can remember. Bui inherited this farm four years ago from his parents. His plantation is situated at an elevation of 2000 meters above sea level.
